Paradise Xii - The Final Chapter Poem by Wakefield Mahon

Paradise Xii - The Final Chapter

Picture
'Twas one and ten thousand years
Since Eden's dawning day
When He had formed the earth
Only to see it decay

First, Eve was tempted in the garden
To bring mankind to shame
Then man created weapons
And war became his game

Then God's eyes flashed with anger
For the human race had failed
Therefore, He saved one family alone
Upon the ark they sailed

Once more man spread out
Across the blessed earth
Then God gave them commandments
Unchanged 'til Jesus' birth

The Pharisees doubted the Word
And ordered Him put to death
However, death cannot conquer what is not flesh
But born of eternal breath

Therefore, the lamb went willingly to slaughter
To pay for mankind's sins
That those who believed in him might know salvation
That is how the story begins

Over Armageddon the equestrians rode
Trumpeting an end to earthly life
First Famine and Pestilence, two by two
Followed by War and Strife

Seven seals broken, seven trumpets blared
Moreover, seven visions were seen
Seven plagues came over the earth
Like the dragon, red, gold and green

Then there was only silence
The Prince sat upon His throne
For all the evil in the universe
Was no match for the Lord alone
