Parents Are Us Poem by noel maddock

Parents Are Us

Apparently,
Hansel and Gretel got married after
Turns out they weren’t brother and sister at all
But had this amazing karmic connection
They steered clear of the wood of course
They had this proper little house & garden and everything
The old wood cutter would come around
And Gretel, well, out of courtesy, she’d give him the tea
But no, she never had any odd jobs for him to do
Even though Hans was a dyed in the wool butterfingers
They kept chickens but only for the eggs
And bread was off the menu
Kept mostly to themselves
The kids were home schooled
On a boiled sweets diet
They were a riot
