Parting Words Poem by Christina Simmons

Parting Words

Rating: 5.0

Saying good bye
What is goodbye?
No big thing!
No big deal!
Only two little words
Nothing haven't heard before
Done before
Say it all year round
First to spring
Then summer
Knowing autumn is on its way
Eventually winter will be next
Do we ever say good-bye?
Or do we merely continue
Like the four seasons
Shredding new skin
Leaving to see a new dawn
Like the autumn leaves leave the trees
To you I'm saying:

Goodbye
Farewell
So long
Bon voyage

Good luck

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Came up with these words during a last therapy session with a counsellor who brought it to my awareness how much I missed my family, childhood sweetheart and daughters whom I thought had left far behind me.
