Past And Present Poem by LoraMae Hawkins

Past And Present

A knowing measured in fearful mind
of a road that has long been paved
Shaking feet on the edge of awareness
a scarred heart laying concaved
I would that he could surely know
what lay within his own command
To lay away the pain of yesteryear
and take the morrow in his hand
Step now forward or stumble back
but steps must needs be made
Live in the shadows of life now gone
or walk ahead to a brand new day
Let fear be forever and ever bygone
give pure voice to final lament
Take spirit, heart, body and mind
leave the past and embrace the present

A tightly interwoven poem pointing to the need to the leave the past behind and to accept the present. I like your examples from the past: the road, the scarred heart, pain, shadows, fear and lament. By the way, you have an excellent command of words. This is an outstanding poem that holds a great deal of truth that resonates. Thanks for sharing. Welcome to Poemhunter! 10+
