Peter's Pumpkin Eaters ..... [eating; Ph Title-'Challenge'; Retirement Pastime; Medium]

Rating: 5.0

Peter was the leader of "Peter's Pumpkin Eaters".
They rode from town-to-town on Harleys (two-seaters) .
They worked the "speed-eating circuit" from the Atlantic to the Pacific,
eating mostly pies along the way; some were OK and some terrific.

It really mattered not much to them, how the pies did taste,
but how MANY pies they could eat, and how LITTLE time they did waste.
Peter's partner was Patricia, who also was his bride.
When they knew of an impending competition, on their cycles they would ride.

They both were retired; he an ex-accountant, and she a former nurse.
They didn't need the contest winnings, as they had enough cash in their "purse"(s) .
They'd gotten bored after retiring early, and then had sought some fun.
Besides, they both enjoyed cruising byways and highways, ….in the sun.

If no "pie" contests were at hand, they'd take what they could find.
There'd been only one contest they avoided; it was eating pickled melon rind.

Next-to-pies, Peter's preference was pasta, with sauce OR without, …..
……putting his face in the plate of pasta, as a PIG would put its snout.
Patricia was more lady-like, preferring, next-to-pies, hotdogs.
BUT like her husband, when they ate, what came to people's minds was "Hogs! ".

And yet they didn't look like hogs. They both, in fact, were rather svelte.
But after a furious competition, it could be said that they BOTH "smelt".

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
a PH friend, Brian Johnston, challenged me to make up a poem with this title he supplied (one someone else challenged HIM with in college; i won't say how many years ago) . i believe his poem is in PH, but i have not seen it. he didn't want me to peek until after i'd written mine.
i was unsure whether to write as though Peter owned a pumpkin which fell prey to pumpkin eaters, or write something quite different. here is the result! thanks, brian. i welcome any (though perhaps not all) challenges!

i'm not sure if i thought about it at the time i wrote the poem, but Harley-Davidson motorcycles are often referred to as hogs; there is an interesting story (Google it) online as to how this nickname came about. bri :)

A interesting humorous write for your challenge Bri...well done! ! The cruising on highways and byways would simply be the best part of retirement fun. Wouldn't be keen on eating a ship load of pies and pasta let alone pickled melon rind.
