Ph: Love: To Love We Belong Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Love: To Love We Belong

Rating: 4.8

For all that I know, you still really love me,
For all that I know, you may really care,
This could be a test, do I really love you,
Maybe you're doubting that you have a prayer?

When going gets tough, someone always falters,
When going gets tough, someone always quails,
It's such a fine line but until it is crossed,
Most likely both dream of happier trails?

No one wants control, love's gift always be free,
No one wants control, but both must feel safe,
Trust is the answer to questions unanswered,
Without it it seems all feel like a waif?

To Love we belong, ‘twas Love we were made for ,
To Love we belong, God's plan for your life,
Our true home is heaven, all paths lead to Rome,
Our joy - His presence, the end of all strife.

If you would like to give this poem a rating, please do so in a comment that is separate from your regular comment if you leave one. Many poets, including myself, have been experiencing visits from hard to identify PH members who like to damage other's poem's ratings with illegal multiple votes of 1.0 and make a mockery out of normal voting. You voting in a comment field helps me to protect your rating of my poem which they wish to destroy. I know that this is a bit of extra work for you, but believe me it is appreciated.

This poem speaks quietly in a voice that does not show any stress or sadness. It is a perfectly balanced utterance, that does not deny the difficulty of achieving such composure. And the format of the poem supports the theme; the stanza form is solid and firm, and those four-line blocks of sound seem to be on the march toward heaven. One Question: I was raised Roman Catholic and so Rome was perceived as a sacred city, that's what we were taught. Why does Rome play such a central role in the later section of your poem?

Love is synonymous to God! When man and woman trust each other and love each other without any cohesion and free of all control, there is a slice of heaven! The poem concludes with a lofty thought! Our true home is heaven, all paths lead to Rome, Our joy - His presence, the end of all strife. Truly love these lines!
