This poem makes me so proud to be a woman. Remarkable femininity. Woman, God's most beautiful, intricate, detailed, and breath-takingly gorgeous creation!
    Cheers ladies! (Report) Reply

I read this poem and started to cry, few poems do that to me. I was having one of those female days where you have no confidence and this pulled me right out. (Report) Reply

A message we'd all like to believe in does not make this more than prose with line breaks. Poetry is a craft, not a rant. (Report) Reply

I love this poem, one of the few I have committed to memory and love to recite. When I read this poem it feels like a personal statement, attitude and all. It is one of the most amazing and best poems I have ever read. (Report) Reply

I don't think Maya is so much thinking color here as much as womanhood. I love her style, rhythm, rhyme and especially the sassiness of this one. We are all phenomenal women, and it's when we realize it and wear it everyone else will know it. (Report) Reply

As I share Maya Angelou with my students it give me great joy. I was introduced to Maya Angelou as a College Student at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. The studies taken and the words shared moved me as I was inspired by her works and life experiences. Therefore I have decided to share with my students in the areas to which I have worked the same gift that she has given to me. This gifts are: Song, Dance, Literature, and Wisdom. All of these gifts are translated through the black experience. Through the words of Dr. Maya Angelou I am constantly up-lifted as with challenged with the task of educating the youth, my people. Those who look, talk, and act like me but more so are kindred in soul origin are the ones I call my people. I thank God for the talents that he has shared with Maya Angelou. Because of these talents I am able to share my talents with the students that I teach. I do know why 'The Caged Bird Sings' in my mind it is because it has been given something to say. It's a fabulous poem, because it is true. She is pointing out that she apprecites ALL of the beauty God has given her. Therefore, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. She is phenomenal.......... because she thinks she is. Ladies, we need to adopt this as our new outlook (Report) Reply
