Phoenix Poem by Cristina Ventura

Phoenix

And all the sudden the little things don’t matter
It’s like I have surfaced from a life underwater
A magnificent metamorphosis of person
Like someone has lifted the grand obscuring curtain
My eyes were anointed by the tears they shed
And reborn in the clarity that now resides in my head
With swollen lids I make my assent to this world above
Remembering that sacrifice is the purest form of love
Now I realize my foolishness
And my naivety in all of this
I gently surrender all my trepidations
All that bewilders; all my mind’s calculations
For I have relinquished my fears with hope
And woven my faith into a secure rope
I thank you God for the multitude of gifts you have given me
Touched by your grace I am finally able to see
