Phone Poem by Brandon Shutter

Phone

I wake up in morning and start thinking about you
I can’t seem to find anything better to do,
Waiting around for what may never come,
My feelings and emotions in a never ending tedium.

When my phone goes off, my heart starts to race
I run to my phone at an olympian sprinter’s pace
My mind is racing, could this really be you,
Could all of my dreams be about to come true?

I turn my phone on in such an incredible haste,
Quickly scan the menu looking for your face.
And then I realize, much to my dismay,
It’s just another spam email, the third of the day.

I put my phone back down, in such a rejected way,
My heart starts to slow, and my mind begins to trace,
Going over our history, seemingly day by day,
My smile begins to sway, today’s not the day.
