Max Planck's physics teacher said 'Physics is a
branch of knowledge that is just about complete.
The important discoveries, all of them, have been
made. It is hardly worth entering physics anymore.'

More than 50 years later Stephen Hawking made
similar remarks. 'There are grounds for cautious
optimism that we may now be near the end of the
search for the ultimate laws of nature.'

Evidence that it is still untrue today is a large list
of unsolved problems in physics. Here are examples
In several subcategories of physics:

Since quantum mechanics and general relativity can't both be right, which needs changing?
Is spacetime a continuum or does it have discrete steps?
Does gravity involve a force mediated by a hypothetical graviton?
Does the universe have Susskind's two dimensions, Einstein's four, or M-theory's eleven?
Are there other universes that are non-observable?
Why are CP violations observed in certain weak force decays, but nowhere else?
Does the universe have a single possible past or Feynman's multiple histories?
Does quantum entanglement involve extra dimensions?
Why is gravity the weakest force for large objects but the strongest at the Planck scale?
How many phases of strongly interacting matter are there?
What is the internal makeup of nucleons?
What determines the transition of quarks and gluons into pions and nucleons?
Why are the neutrinos so much smaller than other particles?
Why is there more matter than antimatter in the universe?
Is dark energy the cause of the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe?
Is dark matter the reason why galaxies don't rotate according to known theory?
Is the shape of the universe unmeasurable, a dodecahedron, or another 3-manifold?
Why is the space roar six times louder than expected? What is its source?
Why do the three main quarks of the proton account for only 12% of its total spin?
Why do certain astronomical objects with accretion discs emit relativistic jets?
Why are there quasi-periodic oscillations in some accretion discs?
Why is the sun's corona so much hotter than the sun's surface?
Why is the magnetic reconnection effect thousands of times faster than predicted by theory?
Why do some cosmic rays appear to have energies above the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin limit?
Why do to the emissions from some pulsars at great cosmological distances fail to exhibit the predicted time dilation properties?
Why does the electron emission in the absence of light increase inversely to the temperature of a photomultiplier?
What is the cause of certain materials to exhibit superconductivity at temperatures much higher than most?
Is the universe finite or infinite? Is it a multiverse?

The universe is an infinite multiverse but what is really perplexing is what do women want? And don't say shoes.

It may be, but consensus is a long way off. Women want to be in control. Few deny that.

Knowledge! But, we need wisdom to understand everything in life. Nice work.

Thanks. I like to define wisdom as knowledge + experience.

Good write! I am physicist, too. I love physics! It is very revealing and also mysterious! It is nature in perfection! ! ! tfs! ! !

Thank you. I don't think we will ever have all the answers until the next life.

And perhaps the biggest mystery of all: why did George Lucas think a parsec was a measurement of time? lol I like your poem- -unusual, informative, and interesting.

Thanks. Or how long does it take a grasshopper with a corkscrew leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?
