This is one of the great poems of the 20th century. The description of the fish, taking it to the next level in the monastery pond, fishing in its time - night, the classic sense of hunter being hunted, the sense of dread in contemplating pike, all come together to make a truly wonderful poem. Take the cloak from his face, and at first
Let the corpse do its worst!

How he lies in his rights of a man!
Death has done all death can.
