Pink Coals Poem by Chester Maynes

Pink Coals

I see his child
Nipped in barbeque wires
All fingers are gripping stain
He was caught flatfooted in pain
Unaware of being washed by mortal rain
Until all came and alarmed
Inevitable homophobia swarmed
And this child unwanted
In his abode he was disregarded
He cannot go wrong
While the strongest influence
Are burning like pink coals
