Piping Love

PIPING LOVE

This poet wants to pipe of love
in what he thinks aren't wayward ways,
for though he's old he's not above
such statements such as, you amaze
him all the time. Don't send a chill
way down his wordy, bookish spine,
telling him you never will
believe the way he spins his line.

Let him grind you in his mill
of love, and prove to you he's found
a love for you he'll never kill
once in his lovemill you've been ground.
I'm sure that you will never know
a love compared with his for you,
though time of course is bound to show
if any word he says is true.

The love he popes for you is piping
hot. Do not let it get cold,
but be transfused with what love-typing
has cross-matched well, not bought or sold,
because the love, of course, is free,
and offered with his compliments,
enjoyed, he hopes, so you can be
his present and his future tense.

Inspired by Cole Porter's song "Love For Sale."
