Placenta Previa Poem by Daya Nandan

Placenta Previa

Placenta inserted partially or wholly in the lower uterine segment,
The leading cause of antepartum haemorrhage, the highest percent,
At the last trimester when the isthmus of the uterus unfolds,
Part of the previated placenta sheers off releasing blood it holds,

Often painless, bright red blood flows out mildly at first,
In time larger portions sheer off and the bleeding gets worse,
The fetal head does not get engaged in the pelvis for some,
Commonly diagnosed if bleeding happens after 24 weeks for the mom,

Pregnancy at an age < 20 as well as > 35 is a risk factor we know,
Chronic smoking by the mother also causes this problem to show,
Myomectomy, previous placenta previa, or caesarean section,
Cocaine use in pregnancy also adds to the risk factor collection,

Large placentae from twins or erythroblastosis adds to the baggage,
Also dilation and curettage that causes endometrium damage,
It can cause the fetus and mother to meet their doom,
That is why they should be treated, to help safe motherhood bloom!
