Players Pawn Poem by C.S. Keskuela

Players Pawn

I just don’t understand
How at first you pursued so free
How at first you did demand
I engage and show my feelings
That you opened so skilllfully in me.
Then - Perhaps in realizing
You had taken too effective a stand
You hid your own from me
While no effort did you make
Did you think that would absolve you?
Less guilty? Oh, you fake!
Or perhaps you could not bridge the gap
That time had put between us
And so you held yourself to you
To more easily deny

Knowing that when this time came
You'd put it all on me
To stop or to go on
In such cowardly shame
And so I had to make a choice
Me, your player’s pawn …
Thus I finally found my voice
To myself I have withdrawn
No longer to thus pursue
This love such as I have for thee.
