Please Do Not Be Another Poet Biting The Dust

Rating: 3.7

please
do not be one of those poets biting the dust
this is not an arid land
a desert
this is a paradise, a place where rivers from our hearts flow
where we like to hear birds singing
where clouds drift like our freedom to be where we want to be
please
do not succumb to the call of popularity
there is nothing there but an empty bag
a wind in our heads
please
write because you want to
not because you want to be read
but because you want to sing to the gods
because you have an offering
to the altar of the divine
without expecting anything in return

look at the bird flying in the skies
they do not skyjump or go
into an exhibition for a show

they fly because they have wings to fly
we write because we have many poems all waiting to be written
we are poets because we are here.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Why do you write poems? Once a poem required three things A piece of paper, pen and inspiring Now as time grows cold There is need for one to be bold. Maybe just a tap on the keys And words spring forth to please. The message to be made - There is both sunshine and shade. Do you bask in the bright light of day Or seek solace in some other way. Perhaps it's to retreat from the heat And there is nothing that shade wont beat Away from the pressure and the cares Where there's time for words to share. Yet as the letters and punctuation coalesce Forming words and thoughts to be, The sense of it all sometimes escape(s) And the message has to wait For the moment when it all becomes clear For the poem to emerge without fear. Then the poem is - And the poem is his (or hers) To share with others Who seek earthly pleasures or answers. Will your poem be the one That appeals to someone Or will it be passed by? No need for you to cry For you have given birth to a living thing That will survive and on wing Soar to heights unknown, Neither right nor wrong, But taking a course In rhyme or free-verse. You have set free Something that must be. A Poem!
