Many veterans of war carry in their heart
Persistent sorrows that will never part.
Obvious scars that everyone can see,
Others with entwined anguish - unable to flee.
A wheel chair or walker, an arm or leg missing,
The results of war can not be termed a blessing.
Memories are often written in books for sale,
Many veterans have tales that they will never tell.
These veterans should be honored and commended,
Their struggle to cope with mayhem has never ended,
Their discharge papers are tucked neatly in a drawer,
But the memories of war will be with them forevermore.
