Poison Poem by Abby Sowers

Poison

This child dies on the inside
his voice a mere whisper in the wind
slowly this red rose
turns to black
Showing the lost love
the taste of poison
is on his tongue
his zodiac creature
the lion
bellows in protest
a noisy oral poet
in this silent death bed
this poison
this nightshade
slowly crawls through his blood stream
his medicine
the red rose
the love
was lost
in this burning blackness
his silent voice
sending out a screaming plea
the taste of poison
Still lies on the lips of this dead child
