Poison Poem by Lynn Stillman

Poison

My heart is just about done.
It has been steeping in generous amounts,
of pain and anger
for so long now.
I trusted in another.
Those words 'you are special to me',
and 'I care about you', entered my bloodstream fraudulently.
The poison was able to creep past my
immune system and then head
straight for my heart.
I am better now except that now
my vision has changed in color.
It has gone from rosy to red.
I am still quite approachable though,
do not be afraid.
However, I must strongly advise that you,
take the time to read the warning
that now comes with my heart,
'You break it, you buy it'.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Dedicated to all that called me friend and then when I was simply not worth the trouble, simply dumped me. Though this sounds as if I am bitter I got over that a long
time ago. Now I find myself feeling sorry for them.1

Then I have a lot of women who owe me money, and others perhaps that I owe. I tried something clever. Good that you are not bitter, inner strength persists throughout this poem. Words are filled with good intentions which tend to turn to intentional lies.
