Pomp And Circumstance Poem by William Chaplar

Pomp And Circumstance

So now you've finished high school, but what does that really mean?
A child and an adult is what they say you're still between.
Then what exactly do adults expect you to endure
Before they will consider you emotionally mature?
When your commitment makes you stay when others cut and run,
And courage makes you brave enough to do what must be done;
When creativity lets you keep your ideas fresh and new,
And decisiveness allows you to be certain what to do;
When discipline's what you display when things get out of hand,
And flexibility lets you bend while others rigid stand;
When you can focus clearly on the traps that life may set,
And foresight gives you readiness for any future threat;
When humility is what you show when others call you great;
When initiative allows you to be timely and not late;
When passion lets you do the things you love with utter zeal
But patience makes you wait until the timing is ideal;
When persistence keeps you going when the task's no longer fun,
And self-confidence ensures that you'll be second to no one;
When tolerance allows you to accept all others' flaws,
And understanding lets you deal with problems without pause;
When each of these important traits you regularly employ,
You'll be emotionally mature so life can be enjoyed.
