Poor Listener Poem by Coletha Albert

Poor Listener

I told him I was bored
He nodded and said okay
I told him I was unhappy
He nodded and said okay
I told him I was leaving
He nodded and said okay

It's been three weeks now
He just called my phone
I have long been gone away
He just realized I'm not home

I told him I was bored
But he wasn't listening
I told him I was unhappy
But he wasn't listening
I told him I was leaving
But he wasn't listening

He never rubbed my back
Or sweetly stroked my hair
All he knows he lost something
And to find it for him I'm not there

How rude of me
How selfish
How ungrateful
Can I be?

Say what? I say into the phone
What did you say my Dear?
Whenever you speak to me now
I simply can not hear...

But he didn't hear a word I said
And even through the line
I knew he wasn't listening nodding all the time
So I said okay defeatedly and nodded on my side
For he has no listening skills
And me, I have no pride.
