Teeth like piano ivories.. With a smile that shone Like the sun in the summertime, Or a harvest moon,
Always the one To be the first In line, whatever Was taking place,
The one at the door To greet you When you came, and To send you on your way,
The one on the ballfield, Saying, 'Come on, Let's hit a few balls, Let's play a game,
The one with the fishing pole, Going down the road, Just to catch a few For his suppertime feast,
The one with a twin, The quiet one, The one who never could Get a word in edgewise,
Husband, Father, Friend, Comforter, Dad - - The one who was always Supposed to be there - -
Death took his smile From his family, but never, Never could it take His memory.
Dedicated to my Dad, whom I never got to know very well as an adult, but whom I miss to this day. His smile truly was a beacon, and he truly was a dear, dear friend to me, and I still wish I had known him better.
