Porch: Nighter Poem by bob barci

Porch: Nighter

When I need some time alone
I wait for the evening sky
to fill up with stars
and then I sit out on the porch.
A nighttime breeze
puts me right at ease.
Don’t know how or why
but it does the trick.
Sitting out on the evening porch
I feel so relaxed
I don’t dare go back inside.
I close my eyes to enhance the feeling
and suddenly, I’m one of many evening porch sitters
running naked through the streets.

The sudden sound of a car horn makes me jump.
I slowly open my eyes
to sun that is both bright and warm.
With a smile
I cuss in amusement to discover
that I slept out on the porch all night.
But, I don’t really care
as I both relaxed
and full of new found energy.
With my first stretch of the day,
I reluctantly head inside.
