Port Beach 20 Something Poem by Dean Meredith

Port Beach 20 Something

Her stars that day
Were rigged
By me
I foretold fire
Contained within a place
She said she was taken
I sighed heavy hard
Friendship became my friend
Sea air
And sand between our toes
A soft swell
Lapping at our minds
My truth inspired
Her freedom
Inevitable
Surprise caught us
Unprepared
Gentle waves rolled in
And out
Came again
And went
Over and over
We tumbled
Beneath the churn
And butterflies drowned
And flew higher
Than space
And dove deeper
Than impending loss
