Pray For The Wanderer Poem by Francis Duggan

Pray For The Wanderer

Rating: 5.0

Long years ago when I was young and attending Primary school
To love the hymns of love and peace I must have been a fool
My favourite hymn 'Pray for the wanderer' I sang it every day
But now I don't have a God as such for to sing hymns to or pray.

Pray for the wanderer if you so wish but do not pray for me
And pray for the young mother of the slums she needs your sympathy
And pray for the hungry and the downtrod and all of those in poverty
And for the displaced and the dispossessed and for the refugee.

And pray for the boat people of the middle east from Iraq and Afghanistan
Those sent to Nauru by Prime Minister Johnny Howard the so called good christian man
In church he sings the hymns with his wife Janette and for the wanderer pray
But with those fleeing oppressive regimes the game of votes he play.

Pray for the wanderers if you so wish but they need more than your prayers
The homeless wanderers of the World pawns of the bigger players
From war ravaged Lands and oppressive regimes in their thousands they flee
In leaky boats they search for a home and many perish at sea

Don't pray for the wanderer he don't need your prayers but pray for Bush and Bin Laden instead
For in war and acts of terror innocent blood is shed
For every bomb dropped in Afghanistan more refugees will create
For to wander in search of a home towards an uncertain fate.
