Preserve My Heart For You Alone, My Love Poem by Don Nguyen

Preserve My Heart For You Alone, My Love

Dearest Lord,

My soul now has become so anguished
Being crushed by my own hands with my own blunders
Which has meant well, for benevolent purposes, but presented unkindly
Grant me a new face, take away this sinful hypocritical mask
But do bestow on Thy servant a face carved in humility
To resemble the Holy Face, suffered and disfigured that You had on Your Cross
No, I am not worthy to receive such a grace
May I now worship Thee and adore Thee by contemplating Thy most glorious Holy Face
Day and night in my soul chamber
Just you and I, two intimate lovers
My soul now has been broken with deepest sorrow, not because what one says
But because I suddenly realized I have not addressed you while composing many latest poems
I talked to all others but forgot to include You in our conversations
Those poems shall never be published or disclosed
Not by myself, nor by my children
May my head, hands, and heart be forever further more used only to address You
May my soul adore You alone, none other human tangibles to be aware
Not even in slightest thoughts, for as a hermit will I live and love,
But do allow me to stroll along from time to time with any soul,
that You might bring to my doorstep
Do forgive me, Lord, in order to preserve this contrite heart within
For I love Thee and souls so much that I still beg Thee for the poetic gift
To inspire and encourage others to love in poems.
