Thank you, Lord, for pretty things.
Thank you for ribbons, flowers, and rings.
Thank you for all things shiny and bright;
For fireworks shows that light up the night.
Thank you for girls with freckled noses.
Thank you for boys with bouquets of roses.
Thank you for babies with ticklish bellies;
For cookies and cakes and homemade jellies.
Thank you for kittens with soft, furry toes.
Thank you for glitter and buttons and bows.
Thank you for beaches and for summer flings,
For jewels and other frivolous things,
For window sills and sunflower seeds.
Dear Lord, thank you for things I don’t need.
