Price Of Freedom Poem by Matthew Bresley

Price Of Freedom

A soldier packs his bags and says good bye once again, he kissed his wife and children his duty never ends,

He swore his life to service, his boots are all he knows, with tears streaming down their face his children watch him go,

His mind is on his mission not the things that he'll miss, his wife rushes out to hold him so he gives her one last kiss,

now they know he'll miss their birthdays but thats not why they cry, their daddy is a soldier and their afraid he's gonna die,

now mommy tries to tell them things will be alright, but secretly she is scared and her fear is hard to hide,

He tries to send them letters and he calls when he can, he fears his life moved on without him while he served in the Sand,

he hopes they've not forgotten their daddy loves them so, his time in war is over it time to go home,

She's glad the kids adjusted to their daddy being gone, at night she thanks her Lord above, soon he'll be home,

The kids were outside playing when a car pulled in the drive, a stranger got out to meet her but would not look her in the eye, he said "Ma'am, im sorry to inform you there has been a tragedy, your husbands F.O.B was hit and he died at the scene",

Never in her whole life has she been more confused, he was supposed to be home on Tuesday his life he couldn't lose,

How can she tell the children their daddy wont be home, he paid the price of freedom, his life for their own,

15 Years have gone and passed a boy is now a man, with tears streaming down her face he raises his right hand,

he said " I swear to serve you loyally and defend you till the last, my dad had died a soldier giving freedom a fighting chance,
now the son is proud to give his life in service to a dream, we fight for God and country, because freedom isn't free.
