A little puppy rests upon my lap
eyes closed, breathing silently
serene in her nap
She's a mini-doxie
smooth chocolate and tan
and to her I'm just a man
She nestles next to me
for comfort and care
and warmth in the cold morning air
This morning she yelped
so arose and tried to help
and there she was waiting
She's just 3.7 pounds
but she has a little heart
dancing as her tail wagged around
She was so happy to see me
it gave my heart joy
just like a baby girl or boy
Babies eat and sleep
so I knew she must be hungry
and I gave her warm food to eat
She's in my care
thie little bundle of joy
and we make a nice pair
Though life has felt broken
she's precious little angel
who gives me love unspoken
and now this I know
even a little puppy
needs love to grow
