Pure Religion And Undefiled Poem by John Bowring

Pure Religion And Undefiled

Pure and undefiled religion,
In our God and Father's sight,
Is, to pour on helpless orphans
Balm of healing and delight:
'Tis to visit cheerless widows
In their darkness and distress:
This is pure and true religion
In its power of blessedness.

Pure and undefiled religion
Is, amidst the tainted scene,
To preserve a heart untainted,
Viceless, spotless, and serene.
'Tis, amidst the world's defilements,
To direct our path aright:
This is pure and true religion
In its glory and its might.
