Question -? - Poem by Bill Grace

Question -? -

Bob Whelan asked the question,
after reminding me this was the day JFK was shot;
What are you going to do for others -
not for yourself or Laurie?
I will write a poem.
An eternal flame burns in Arlington
"we have seen the earth upon the body of the young President"
we have seen the kings and premiers who walked in his cortege
Something special was ruthlessly ripped from us.
Adlai Stevenson tried to blunt the trip.
Wayne Morris told me if Jack had lived
he would have been one of our greatest Presidents.
When they presented the flag to Jackie
it was only the second time I ever saw my Father's eyes with tears.
Dad had voted for Nixon.

Why should the 22 of November require a chairatible act any more than the 21 or 23? You should have asked " what special effort was Bob Whelan intending" ?
