Questions God Wouldn'T Ask Poem by Ayotunde Okunowo

Questions God Wouldn'T Ask

God won't ask you what kind of
car you drove, but he will ask you
how many people that you gave
a lift to that didn't have a car.

God won't ask you how big or
fancy your house was, but he will
ask you just how many people
you happily welcomed into your
home with open arms.

God won't ask you about all the
designer labels people like to
wear these days, but he will ask
you how many of those clothes
hanging up in your wardrobe
unused could have helped the
needy.

God won't ask you about your
social status or the highest
position you ever held in a job,
but he sure will ask you how
much class you displayed to your
fellow man.

God won't ask you how many
material possessions you
managed to accumulate over the
course of your life time, but he
will ask you if they dictated your
life.

God won't ask you what your
highest salary was, but he will
ask if you compromised your
character in any way to obtain
that salary or other riches.

God won't ask you how much
overtime you worked, but he will
ask you if you put in enough
time with your family and other
loved ones.

God won't ask you how many
promotions you received, but he
will ask you how hard you
worked to promote others.

God won't ask what your job
title was, but he will ask you if
you performed it to the best of
your ability.

God won't ask what you did to
help yourself, but he will ask you
what you did to help others.

God won't ask you how many
friends you had, but he will ask
you how many people to whom
you were a true friend.

God won't ask you what you did
to protect your rights, but he will
ask what you did to protect the
rights of others.

God won't ask in what
neighborhood you lived, but he
will ask you how you treated
your neighbours and the people
you met as you went about your
day.

God won't ask you the colour of
your skin, but he will ask you
about the content of your
character.

God won't ask you how many
times your deeds matched your
words, but he will ask how many
times they didn't.
How do you think you would
answer him?
