Quick Sand Poem by Josey Alfred

Quick Sand

Rating: 4.5

You think that by your own merit,
You scaled the worldly seats of height!
If so you fool, your mind is blind,
And is an outcast, from fairyland.

Parents worked hard, to fend and feed,
To help you reach, top seats refined.
You dump them now, for they need help,
For you want to enjoy, your world.

You think that they just did their role,
Why do they fret and feel so sore?
Why should I care, “forget the lore”
My wife, demand a fancy car.

I work too hard to keep lifestyle!
I need to keep status meanwhile
Slighting parents inflict me pain,
I conceal it with a soothing grin.

Beware, decades will fly past you!
You too will turn, grey and white too!
Offspring of you will shine like you,
‘And throw you out, as you did too’.

A real bold treatment of the subject. The poem brings into focus the conflict between the young and the old generaion. Is it what we call a generation gap or a total lack of concern for our parents and grand parents- a travesty of blood relations.

Thinking about own merit is definitely beautiful in this poem. Reading quick sand gives more happiness. Although conflict persists in between old and new generations still this poem is nice for awareness. Nicely penned poem shared really.

Hi Josey, Marvelous poem. Just the right words at the right place: You dump them now, for they need help, For you want to enjoy, your world. ... and The final warning: : Beware, decades will fly past you! You too will turn, grey and white too! Offspring of you will shine like you, ‘And throw you out, as you did too’. Great reading. Thank you.

A grave warning! Yes, what one sows, he will reap! If one takes good care of his ailing parents, he too will be taken care of by his children in his infirmities. At a time when each one thinks of his own comfort alone, this kind of reminders are necessary! In our culture it is always... 'Matha, Pitha, Guru, Deivom'! Thanks for this great message!
