Rabbit-Proof Fence Poem by ramona scott

Rabbit-Proof Fence

Oblivious to the realities that haunt you to this day
In every part of the world that you have touched
Destroying civilizations and races of men is your way;
What might have been had they remained untouched?

Your women looked the other way as you raped ours
Then ripping our babies from our arms, stealing them away
Transplanting, sans love and care, our little colored flowers
Into your violent, hate-filled gardens..until dead they lay.

Spending entire generations corrupting our spirit, erasing
Our joyful heritage, our laughter, our songs, our smiles.
If we escape, we face you relentlessly chasing
Us down like dogs, no matter how many miles.

Your weapon of choice, that black book, whose words
You quote like bullets, using those words to deceive
Justifying your horrific acts which you enact undeterred
Replacing our gods with one in whom you don't even believe.

What evil thing do you spawn from, that makes you
Such a disease, a rampant plague, destroying for what cause
This once magnificent planet, now unable to eschew
Your malignancy disquised as 'your' rights and laws?

But our gods are awakening, for now your women see
What it is like to be raped, their babies stolen, our pain
Now becomes theirs and the world, united, agree
Our humanity at all costs, we must fight to regain.

The earth screams out to our gods to avenge
Everywhere your seed has taken root, chaos resides
The Universe has descended to take its revenge
As karma sees fit for the changing of the tides.

For there exists NOT a rabbit-proof fence
To return lost generations back from whence
They've come throughout earth's history
Just depart on your ships and leave us be!
