Rain Poem by Emily Straka

Rain

Rating: 4.5

Beautiful streams of light,
falling from the sky.
Waves rippling in the distance.
Looking out over the town,
waiting for my new tomorrow.
I think about the time that's past;
the good, the bad, the depressing.
Like everyone I have times
where I love my life.
Also I have times where I want
nothing more than to be someone else.
I hear the sound of thunder,
rumbling in the distance.
I think about the rain
pounding on my window.
Oh how I wish I could be the rain.

Slits of grass rubbing against each other,
soaking wet from the storm.
I can hear my family laughing,
how I wish I could be so carefree.
But I can't right now,
maybe later when I'm not tied down.
I think about what's happening,
I do not like it,
I do not want it.
Leaving it as is is hard,
but when you can't change something
what can you ever do?
All I can hear anymore is the rain,
drilling on my roof.
Oh how I wish I could be the rain.

The sky is blackened by the storm.
Even with the sun now down there is no moon,
no stars, no light, no life.
Darkness has made everything vanish.
The acknowledgement sends grief through me.
I realize nothing ever disappears,
everything only changes.
If that is so then how can I live?
Change is unsteady, confusing,
change is determinned to make an impact.
I hear a t.v. ondown stairs.
I hear the sound of rain,
richocheting off of everything.
Oh how I wish I could be the rain.

Fierce wind beating my window,
leaving my house quickly behind.
Maybe I could leave with the wind.
Going to a far away land,
no judging, no resentment, no fear.
But I cannot leave with the wind,
I am trapped by my worst enemy.
I am trapped by myself.
There is no leaving for me,
no matter how much I wish I could run.
Holding myself here simply by memories.
All I want to hear anymore is the rain.
It pounds, it drills, it richochets.
Oh how I wish I could be the rain,
but I can never be the rain.
