Rain Poem by Mark Hopwood

Rain

I hear the thunder
Thumping through my life
I await the lightning
To slice through me like a knife
And I feel trapped
Like a fox
Waiting for the hounds
Sat here so quietly
My eyes follow every sound.

I feel my heartbeat
Thumping through my chest
Thundering through my senses
My North turns n heads west
And I feel lost
Like a child
Abandoned by the roadside
Wishing I could swallow my pride.

Nothing is changing, maybe it never could
I know i can't give up, but I feel as if I should
There's so much more I could be, but I feel nothing can be done
How can I ever be me, when I'm always on the run...
From myself.

I hear the sound of the rain
Smashing into the window
As the sounds of the night
Send the darkness further afield
And I feel alone
Like a mistake
I never should have been
Sat inside this room
The walls keep out the never seen.
