Readiness Poem by Daniel Brick

Readiness

Rating: 5.0

The grape vine gets thirsty
waiting for the drinker.
Too full of itself
it longs to be empty.

Impatient for the listener
the flute slips from its case
ready to drop into place
and begin its sweet song.

The poems hide in plain view.
Dark in a bright world
they hope to see farther
than the clearest lens.

This 3 stanza poem is stocked full of imagery, metaphor, personification, and interesting choices as far as grammar, objects conveying readiness, and maybe an even larger meaning (metanym) . I like the transitions between active and passive voice and the images you choose are of objects/things that wish to share or release themselves into the world.... Things that 'ripen' with time and with proper care and curation, are amazing and beautiful to behold (good wine, beautiful music from a skilled and practiced musician) ... And then finally... THE POEM! The poem that lays hidden... Dark in a bright world (love that twist/contrast) ... They hope to see farther than the clearest lens... Oops! You did it again! I love this poem. I really appreciate when someone can convey such meaning with beautiful simplicity... That's a gift and a skill.

I like the contrasts used in this poem and the images they create.
