Reading Deep Poem by Ashley

Reading Deep

Rating: 5.0

I remember it clearly,
As though it happened yesterday.
In fact as though it happened today.
For that is how reply it touched me.

She pranced into the store
wearing a kid dress and kid ponytails,
with a happy kid smile and a swirly kid lollipop.

As I reflect I realize that she and I were two sides of a coin;
for she read deep while I read the cover.
She then did something that shocked me more than I'd like to admit.
She picked up the 'unmarked book, '
as it was so often called.
The thick tome was no more than looseleaf and a cover.
With the only print being one bold faced phrase:
'Look within to find the real story.'
To all of us, the phrase was pointless.
Meaning look further into the book.

But she read deep,
Knowing that there was more to the words than first thought.

And i realized...

I could learn a thing or two from that kid-no that intelligent girl.

And i realized...

There was more than first thought to that intelligent girl.
Past that typical exterior,
there was a cunning interior.

It was at that moment that I figured out the meaning of the phrase:
'Do not judge a book by its cover.'
And that is it.
