Rebecca Poem by Ima Ryma

Rebecca

From Mississippi I came to
The Coolidge White House in the year
1926, meant to do
Thanksgiving dinner, main course here.
But got a Prez pardon and named
Rebecca, and the Prez and I
Became best buddies, and he I tamed
Into a raccoon loving guy.
I often took him for a walk
Around the White House grounds, and he
Had someone with whom he could talk,
And know he could fully trust me.

I was a mischievous one a lot.
Many White Houseplants I'd unpot.
