Red Dirt Road Poem by Marilyn Lott

Red Dirt Road

I drove one day down a red dirt road
That took my breath away
I knew right then what people saw
And why they planned to stay

The Oklahoma craggy rocks
Were carved with special tools
A loving God had taken time
And threw out all the rules

The air was still this sunny day
My camera pressed my eye
All thoughts were on the bright red hills
And a windmill against the sky

A one room school dying a sad slow death
Was tired and worn from the years
It had served a century of purpose
But still it brought me tears

I thanked my God for all he’s done
As he blessed this red dirt road
Life here could not be sweeter
Back to my car I strode.
