Rekindle Poem by Maya Hanson

Rekindle

The time between then
and now
it’s almost killing me

My mind then
my mind now…
only the same

The time between
Was the time it took me to
forget
To believe in a nothingness
that holds me to the earth
just by a string
I can’t explain
the lock
the tug
of memory

All the butterflies,
the shy smiles,
the steps closer
All the interlocking
Fingers,
How could I
forget

You’re on my mind
And the love you
Rekindle
it starts a fire
I’m at the stake
Almost ready to
face my death
sentence

I won’t chase deceit
But I’m holding out for
just
one
dance

just
one
kiss…
