Respect, Respect me
Respect, respect me, I say
In every single way
Respect me day by day
Don’t put me down
When we are out and about with people around
Playing me like a fool
Portraying me as one who never went to school
Respect me sweet heart
Till life sets us apart
Respect my needs
Listen and take heed
Respect to me is what means love
And not those commonly spoken words,
‘I love you’
To respect me is to publicly and privately honour me
To respect me is to listen attentively while I speak
To respect me is to bread and butter my desire to be free
To respect me is to stand by me when I am weak
Look up! Look up to me!
I may not be perfect
Nor a genius of an intellect
Respect, respect me & our love will stand erect!

This poem is so close to home for me people dnt understand wat there doing to u respect means so many things and i can nvr beable to explain it to those who do this on a daily basis i nvr new how to get it across to these people how i felt low and useless being made to listen to the put downs and constant hurtfull coments tht make me cry this poem is away 2 get people to relise what there sayin and doin is wrong iv now got no respect from my 2 son i cant blame them theve seen this on a daily basis and think its normal. I feel i can be incontrol now and by readin this to my family and friends they would b appalled at the way they have treated me if people dnt take this in there simply not worth it thank u for makin me see tht i can be strong and deal with this now i would b gratefull if i could read your poem out to all tht hav no respect for me.
For most- Respect can be a struggle to understand and apply.You have said how I often feel.
