Responsibility Poem by Jayne Doe

Responsibility

Rating: 1.5

A product of our environment
That's the motto these days
'I did what I did
Because that's what we do
In the place where I learned
How to do what I did'
Certainly circumstance is significant
And the past impacts the present
But now what?
Are we to say
We're forever slaves
To that from which we came?
Can we not be
More than the 'me's'
That we used to be?
Of course, you'll say
And start to claim
Change is something to attain
Let's set a goal
And off we'll go
Hoping to achieving it
We'll start to preach
With mixed beliefs
For transformation all around
But stuck to us
Despite the shrug
Is that motto we believe
So when we fail
We'll simply wail
'We're just products of our environments'.
