Reveries Poem by Sumanta Chatterjee

Reveries

The moonbeams are painting
Rhythmic kisses
Over the Ganges ripples
The golden waves dancing
In uncanny euphony
Beckon me, like a swinging slender figure,
To sink in their fathomless depths
No pretence of grandeur
Simply a shapeless union
With the distant raft
The only luminous witness

Eyes drawn into
The all-devouring darkness
Lips keen on satiation
On penalty of death
Yielding of its own accord
My heart seeks refuge
In the land of beyond
Where no shame of failure resides
Nor joy of furious victory
Oblivion only and bottomless pleasure
A long delirium maintaining no syntax

Free vent to thinkstream
Lures me away from
My mundane existence
But then a paralyzing glimmer
Assaults my eyes
Arouses my delicate unconscious
Out of its utopian gloom
Some indistinct voice
From the misty realm
Whispers into my alert ears

The mystery unveiled
My intoxicated fabrications
Laid threadbare
The moonbeams still painting
Rhythmic kisses
Over the Ganges ripples
