Revisitation Poem by Je'free Y .

Revisitation

I used to think that once you have been terrified
By a ghost, its next apparition will be less scary;
But memory can be haunting, making the past
Return in moments you least expect,
Recreating yesterday into a new experience again.
Like having salted wounds, I relive -
The same old fears, the usual tears.

I used to think time never rewinds, pushes us forward
Onto healing and forgiving, onto unreached episodes;
But tiny sights and sounds around connect us back
To faces, places, spaces we have almost forgotten,
And have already forgotten at some point.
Like going around in circles, or traversing a crossroad,
Then intersecting it for the nth time.

There were days when I already smiled and laughed,
And taught the others how to survive;
But now and then, I become a victim like them
Who misses togetherness, yearning back for old smiles.
Nothing like death and love that can cause
A recurring twinge in the heart. I know this today
For once, not long ago, I have tasted bitter loss.
