Rhyme As Prose Poem by Francis Duggan

Rhyme As Prose

Some people now refer to rhyme as prose
That's how they see it one has to suppose
Between verse and doggerel the meaning they do miss
But then with their sort ignorance is bliss.

In the English language of the great poets of all time
The majority knew fame from writing rhyme
And since rhyme and music together get along
Many of their poems became famous in song.

The difference between prose and doggerel
For anyone should not be hard to tell
But those who refer to rhyme as prose well that's a different thing
One must wonder do they have music in them for to sing.

The changes in literature are happening fast
And yet the present is tied to the past
And those who refer to rhyming verse as prose
Must also think a flower cannot be a rose.
