When I was a young man; writing poetry could get you laid.
That’s if the guys didn’t beat the crap out of you first because
they believed all poets were gay…
If you wrote a bitchin’ rock song, your mates hailed you a God;
but write a poem about love and affection and man you needed
to enter the witness protection plan…
The chicks really dug the poetry I used to write; while to my friends
they laughed and thought it was all just a joke. But on a Friday night
while they sat at home playing with their meat…
I was eating some of the best pâté and caviar to be had,
all because I found a readership that appreciated banal sappy crap.
Irony is, as an old man….
I’m still wearing the white tennis shoes
