Roller-Coaster Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Roller-Coaster

Roller-coaster.
It's
A roller-coaster.
Up and down
And down and up
The erect Poet-Seer
Moves
In the motion
With the motion.
The poet-seer teaches
Not directly; you read
His poems
He is not a text-book
Not direct teaching
But teaching in
Experience,
The reading

I don't think you've ever used a roller coaster as a metaphor before! But the focus of this poem is in the Poet-Seer's indirect MESSAGES. He lets actions speak for him; his lifestyle conveys his values; his acts speak for him. All of this emphasizes his integrity. Lesser men - like me! - sound like text books. The poet-seer is like a Shakespearean tragic hero: his life itself is his message and, as Hamlet says, THE REST IS SILENCE.
