Roller Derby Mama Poem by Paul Amrod

Roller Derby Mama

Crawling upward
Grab that sideboard
Keep on truckin‘
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
Yeh, It’s frightin’
So exitin’
You’re like lightin’
Always duckin’
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
So keep movin’
You’re just groovin’
Ramblin’, rovin’
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
You got your mind set on the wheel
Remember never let her on the field
You turn and toss just like a cat
Hopin’ you don’t end up straight flat
upon your back embarrassed, out
Makin’ sure you hold the crowd
They’ll be whistlin’ crazy and loud
Got ‘em grunting like a gang of seals
Such a glorious feel
Don’t forget to turn around!
Make sure she doesn’t come
on your back
Strap you up against the rack
Tigress Queen
You’re the epitome
Of every dream
I have ever dreamt
Catch me now
I think I’m fallin’
I know you can
You are the rollin’ girl
Rock me now
Send me into a whirl
You’re the wish I have always kept.
Just like the tears I have always wept.
You’re the moonlight mistress
sweet who once stole in
through my garden fence.
You’re the little tomboy princess
cute who played with me in consequence.
You’re the magic woman with the wand
who kept me up until the dawn.
Crawling upward
Grab that sideboard
Keep on truckin‘
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
Yeh, It’s frightin’
So exitin’
You’re like lightin’
Always duckin’
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
Roller Derby Mama
Keep on the get away
Roller Derby Mama
Always there on display
Roller Derby Mama
Call me up any day
Roller Derby Mama
You’re on the break away
I’ll never catch up to you
You got me stuck on you!
Come on start the drama
Roller Derby Mama
You’ve got a contagious Karma
Such a tantalizing charmer
We throw some confetti
at this skating Nefertiti
If you don’t win it all
It would be such a pity
Run off into the sinful city
or maybe to the jungle too
without fretting at all.
How do keep on the breathe of it
Every day seems to be the rest of it
It has gone on so long
Without a finale
And after tonight
There’ll be more to tally.
You have simply got it girl
Unravelling the mystery
Pulling the string
To start up the trickery
Oo lala It’s like a cymbal crash
You’ve got all of us
tightly in your lovely grasp.
You’re the sexy songstress
sweet who sang for me
through all of life’s suspense.
You’re the soulful angelic enchantress
who guided me to my resilience.
You’re the magic poetess
writing verses for my common sense.
Crawling upward
Grab that sideboard
Keep on truckin‘
You’re the Roller Derby Mama
Yeh, It’s frightin’
So exitin’
You’re like lightin’
Always duckin’
You’re the Roller Derby Mama!
