Rosebud Poem by Robert Siney

Rosebud

Out with the gang, kicking a ball,
Building a fort, climbing a wall.
Smells from the ‘barbies filled the night air,
Rock Paper Scissors made everything fair.
Those trainers that seemed so surreal,
Luminous laces with a flash in the heel.
Always wary of next door’s dog,
They had a pond and he killed the frog.

Hide and seek ‘til the sun went down,
And that wee baby hedgehog we found.
Sleeping bags and a midnight feast,
You can have Quavers, I like them the least.
I recall that football sticker hierarchy
And the bowling party anarchy.
So many smiles, so many laughs,
Tainted only by enforced nightly baths.
